It's a great video depicting some of the world's endangered species and how you can help. You can usually join an adopt-an-animal programme at your local zoos as well, but this gives a great online alternative.
I've actually been planning (and have lesson/unit plans!) on having my future class adopting a different animal from the endangered species list each year during our environmental studies. There's a number of other sites as well that I have bookmarked. Not only that, but did you know you can also adopt an acre of rainforest as well to help preserve habitats?
I think it's a great idea! Teach them at a young age about the benefits and importance of preserving our wildlife. Helen has used a number of other sites in the past to adopt an animal or two...sometimes as a great gift for someone's birthday! How cool is it to know you've got a little animal that you've adopted?
Yes, I'd heard of people adopting parts of the rainforests as well...it's a great programme. I encourage you to continue with your lesson/unit plans!
