So what's new with me this week? Well last week I've officially become a resident of the UK...and this week marks one month in the UK! I don't know about you, but that seems like quite a milestone to me.
Jason says that it doesn't really seem like a month. In a way, he's right. Sometimes it seems like only yesterday I was back at Schawk working...and here I am! Life's amazing like that...time can sure fly when you're enjoying yourself, and I've never been happier.
So a milestone last week - I drove entirely on my own. Oh sure, I had some written directions, but I had no navigator! And guess what? Not only I...but the car as well...are each in our own respective "one piece"! I didn't ding it...I didn't dent it...I didn't even scratch it! Better yet, I didn't ding anyone else's car either.
But good lord...are there any motorcycle riders out there that aren't learners? Okay, Amy isn't I know. But it's funny...it seems like every time I see someone on a bike they have their L Plates. (For the Americans, while you're learning to drive in the UK, you have these large red and white magnetic "L" plates stuck to your vehicles. It's like letting everyone else on the road to get the hell outta the way because you don't quite know what you're doing. I really need some! Ha ha ha.) (See here)
I've also been Helen's personal chauffer! I love it. It gives me a chance to practice driving, but also ensures that my girl doesn't need to walk from the train station to her car (across two car parks and a street) in the dark after work.
I've used my time behind the wheel wisely though. The time has been spent going to do 'business' in the wedding department. I've been out to the Rhinewood to book a room for Aaron for the night of the wedding...he can't sleep on the street and I think nobody else will be fit to drive him anywhere!
I've also been out to Countryside Properties to choose our flooring for the new flat. We're going with American Oak for the hallway area (where you come in the door and leave your shoes) and possibly a wood for the kitchen as well...we've yet to decide. For the bathroom and en suite we're going with a slate grey tile...nice and clean and neutral to go with our linens.
I've also been calling people in the states...namely, the jeweller that screwed up our rings. If you don't know the story, look back in my posts, I'm sure i mentioned it. Anyway, they owed us (more appropriately, owed Helen) an apology letter and a gift certificate, (likely a paltry amount) which we've yet to see...six weeks since they said they'd send them. Hmmm...something's amiss. Anyhoo, I am assured they are in the post today! (Yeah right)
